"I have a vision of

thousands of missionaries going into the mission field with hundreds of passages memorized from the Book

of Mormon so that they

might feed a spiritually famished world."

Pres. Ezra Taft Benson

"It is desirable that our children should learn to memorize important

passages; such that will

leave a strong impression upon their lives; scriptural passages that they will use

as a guiding star; scriptural passages that will help to

 form spiritual convictions

in their minds of right and wrong; scriptural passages that will bring conviction

 to their hearts. "

Elder Joseph M Tanner

Gen'l Conf, April 1901

"May I suggest that in our family night gatherings we make it a project to memorize one scripture citation a week pertinent to this work.  At the conclusion of a year our children will have on their lips a fund of scripture which will remain with them throughout their lives."

Pres. Gordon B Hinckley

Scripture Memory Songs

About Us

I am a mom of six children ranging in age 5 to 14.  I first started putting scriptures to tune when my oldest was asked to recite a scripture in the Sacrament Meeting Primary Presentation.  Because he was not able to read yet, he needed to memorize it.  I put it to a simple tune and he memorized it quickly and retained it in his memory.  I have continued off and on making up tunes to scriptures over the past 9 years.  Now that little 5 year old is 14 and can rattle off dozens of scriptures.  I also taught seminary for a few months in Southern California before moving to Utah.  Every Friday was Scripture Mastery Day and we learned them by song.  My Seminary students loved learning scriptures this way! ("Hi" all you big Seniors out there!!!)

The main purpose of this CD is help children of all ages memorize the scriptures.  The scripture reference is included in each tune so that one can remember where the scripture is found.  The tunes are simple, unique and catchy.  The arranging is beautiful!  I can say that since I am not the one who did that part.  Thank you Michael Dowdle and Mark Stephenson for making my average tunes sound GREAT!

I believe that this CD is a valuable tool for our children.  When children memorize through song, it stays with them.  How many commercial jingles can you still rattle off from your childhood?  When children learn the scriptures this way, it is with them for the rest of their lives.  It helps them gain confidence in the scriptures and really gives them a true talent!  When children feel that they are good at something, it encourages them to continue in that thing.  Also, if we teach our children when they are young it will be will them in the turbulent teen-age years.  They have something in their head that the Spirit can bring to their remembrance in times of trials or temptation.  (John 14:26)  By small means are great things brought to pass! (1 Nephi 16:29)

Future CD's are in the works.  I have at this time about 75 scriptures put to tunes.  Because I taught Old Testament Seminary, I have many of those scriptures already done.  I also served a mission in Japan, Sendai and very much want to put together Scripture Mastery for Preach My Gospel as well.  (Some of you know me as "Pollock Shimai".)  But, future CD's will depend on the success of this CD.  So... if you think this is a valuable tool and you feel that this CD is good, then please let other people know!!!

Sincerely, Brenda Hebert
